Meet Barkley, a four year old CHOW. Barkley needs a home. His owner passed away. To review detailed information, click HERE for flyer.
|
Barkley is a Golden Retriever and Chow Mix. He adores all the babies, toddlers, children and adults he meets. He pulls me over to them as he KNOWS that they want to pet him and tell him our beautiful he is!!!! He has met some sweet dogs and liked them. He has also met dogs that growled at him and he growled back. Barkley grew up as the only dog in his owner’s home and I actually wonder if he considers himself to be a human. There are no cats in his home and there cannot be in his new home. Barkley is an 80 pound puppy who will sit and lie down for his Nanny Fran but otherwise really does not know any more commands. Since Nanny Fran is stern with all her children and not “The ENFORCER” he does not know and react to commands like a perfect robot. I actually feel very sorry for those that do when I recognize that the obedience is out of fear and not in their delight for being able to delight you with their wonderfulness. When you walk with Barkley he will notice every squirrel, lizard and cat in the area. He gives the term “Leaping Lizards" an entirely new meaning. I have always used the Sporn No Pull Halter Collar on him and that is what I use on every dog I walk. He responds very well with it. He is very intelligent and understands a gentle tug.

Animal shelters are a great resource for families and individuals interested in adopting a pet.
All shelter animals need a new home. Some of our friends are found abandoned, or are sent to shelters by owners who had unrealistic expectations about the time and effort needed to continue a long-term relationship with their pet. Unfortunately national statistics show that nearly 50% of all animals in shelters are euthanized due to the lack of homes. |
Before you commit to adoption, please contemplate the following:
- When choosing a pet, please consider the life span of the animal in question; dogs and cats live between 10 and 18 years, making them a long-term commitment
- Pets require training, regular health checks, and the occasional vaccination
- There is a continual financial commitment associated with pet ownership; hidden costs are associated with the purchase of food, leashes, collars, litters, toys and licenses
- Some pets in shelters have troubled pasts; please be aware that they may initially exhibit negative behaviors such as biting, chewing, scratching or biting - most behaviors can be corrected by proper training
